Looking for ideas to make breakfast more special? Or how about menuing world breakfasts for lunch (or dinner)? This site is a goldmine, though it has no recipes for the dishes it highlights.

Of the 50 world breakfasts shown, Just Desserts favors the Alaskan breakfast — reindeer meat and an egg on a pancake — or the Polish egg and sausage eye-opener. In a less cholesterol-intensive mood, we might also be inclined to start the day with the Iranian halim (wheat, cinnamon, butter and sugar cooked with shredded meat).

That said, the Indian breakfast is also pretty cool — rosemary roasted potatoes, tofu scramble, lentils, veggie sausage and banana pepper toast. If that doesn't get you going, nothing will, unless it's the spicy fish/sweet-and-spicy pork/rice combo platter from Thailand.

The weirdest breakfast dish? Lots of candidates — anyone for haggis first thing in the morning? Thought not — but we'll go with the Estonian curd cheese on a wheat bloomer or its near cousin, the Welsh rarebit, both of which are basically cheese on toast, but with lots of attitude.
