New York City housing officials recently debuted a new co-operative housing complex in the Longwoood section of the Bronx that they say is the first in the city to be obesity-unfriendly. The 63-unit building called the Melody features exercise equipment for both adults and children along with signage encouraging physical activity.

Yes, there is (one) elevator in the eight-story structure, but there are also signs suggesting that the stairs are a healthier alternative to vertical navigation.

To provide a musical accompaniment to one's huffing and puffing up the stairs, the Melody broadcasts jazz music from hidden speakers in the stairwells. Bet there will be a whole lot more stairwell jazz fans on the second floor than the eighth floor…
