Fiscal 2014 Revenues: $13,600,000,000

Compass North America is a division of London-based Compass Group PLC and accounted for 48 percent of the parent company’s revenues in fiscal 2014. The unit’s organic growth was up 6.8 percent in 2014, compared to 8 percent the previous year.

Like-for-like volume in B&I was flat for the year despite good levels of net new business. On the other hand, the healthcare, education and sports/leisure businesses saw good organic revenue growth, driven by new contracts, increased participation (in education) and high attendance (in sports/leisure).

Alliances concluded over the course of the year included the Hampton Creek healthy foods firm to provide exclusive Hampton Creek products and targeted product development for all Compass units, On the Go packaging to boost the company’s grab-and-go offerings and celebrity chef Bal Arneson of Bal’s Spice Kitchen to incorporate Arneson’s spice-infused cooking concept.

To meet the growing demand of customers following a gluten-free diet, Compass developed the Avoiding Gluten? customizable program. Other culinary concepts introduced include Big Game, with menu items and products reminiscent of tailgates and football parties, and Munch Madness, featuring traditional and creative hot and cold hoagie sandwiches.

In addition, the Food to You mobile food cart was introduced to draw traffic from customers in corporate and healthcare environments with a variety of retail snacks, bottled beverages, coffee and microwaveable items.

Also notable is the new Menus of Change program featuring healthy, sustainable menus developed in partnership with the CIA and the Harvard School of Public Health.

Major corporate personnel changes during the year included naming Bobby Kutteh CEO of Compass Healthcare and giving TouchPoint CEO Scott MacLellan additional responsibility to lead Morrison Senior Living.
