Aramark buys group purchaser for $140M

The foodservice vendor seeks to enhance its purchasing power in healthcare and education.

In an effort to boost its purchasing power in healthcare and education, Aramark has acquired group purchaser HPSI for $140 million.

The acquisition, which was finalized earlier this month, was noted by Aramark execs on an earnings call Wednesday. It will give the foodservice vendor “access to industry-leading and complementary supply chain management and technology in the group purchasing space,” Aramark CEO Eric Foss said, noting that HPSI, whose business deals largely with foodservice-related products, has thousands of large healthcare and education clients and makes about $1.4 billion in annual purchases.
