LAUSD Modifies BIC for Some Sites to Meet Parental Objections

To address objections from parents at schools with small low-income populations, the Los Angeles USD has developed a modified alternative to its breakfast-in-the-classroom program, reports LA School Report. The alternative, provided at 30 elementary schools that resisted BIC because of concerns about wasted instructional time and mess in the classrooms, allows schools to let students eat breakfast during a morning break instead. LAUSD had rolled BIC out in 550 of its schools in the past three years, reaching 360,000 students from low-income families.
