School nutrition team celebrates various cultures with monthly heritage day

Columbus School District in Columbus, Wis., has implemented a heritage day each month, during which students get to try a meal from a different cultural background, Daily Citizen reports.

This month, for example, the district served pork carnitas, esquites, refried beans, rice and tajin tropical fruit salad in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

In November, the foodservice team is planning on serving an indigenous Thanksgiving meal.
