Young culinarians and veteran foodservice staff of the Roosevelt Elementary School District in Phoenix will both get some high-end culinary instruction, and the district some tasty, nutritious new items for next year’s school lunch menu.

Regional distributor Total Source Food Service and food product manufacturer JTM Food Group are teaming up on the two-day event that will first bring a team of national and local professional chefs to Total Source’s onsite kitchen to teach Roosevelt District foodservice staffers how to prepare some new school lunch dishes they developed, and how to present them with restaurant-style flair from.

The next morning, the professional chefs will go to V.H. Lassen Elementary school, where they will instruct the young members of the school’s Positive Reflections for Young Entrepreneurs (PR) Club on preparing those dishes. The dishes will then be served to school staff and students, as well as members of the community, at Lassen School’s own PR Restaurant, an onsite restaurant/bakery run by members of the PR Club as a way to teach club members about how to operate a real-life business.
