Oakland Unified School District eliminates supper program

Oakland Unified School District in Oakland, Calif., is eliminating its supper program this year, KTVU reports.

School officials say that the program was discontinued due to budget cuts. While federal funding supported the program, officials say that they will save $1.4 million in labor costs by reducing 18 staff positions from full time to part time and eliminating one position.

Out of the 36,000 students in the district, around 3,000 received an after-school meal.
