N.J. school district begins serving halal meals

School officials say they served 900 halal lunches on the first day.

Paterson Public Schools in Paterson, N.J., has begun serving halal meals at two of its schools to better serve its Islamic population, North Jersey reports.

The meals are part of a pilot that is taking place over the next four months, with a possible expansion to other schools in September.

Officials say they served 900 halal lunches on the first day.
