Iowa district serves up local food for National Farm-to-School Month

For the next two weeks, Dubuque Community School District will serve locally sourced watermelon, bell peppers, carrots, apples and cabbage.

Dubuque Community School District is finally participating in the National Farm to School Month, according to THonline.com.

Kelsey Salow, DCSD’s assistant manager of food and nutrition services, told THonline that they wanted to participate last year, but struggled to find a local source who could accommodate for the district’s more than 10,000 students.

With the help of Iowa Food Hub—a nonprofit who delivers locally sourced foods—for the next two weeks, DCSD will serve watermelon, bell peppers, carrots, apples and cabbage.
