Houston Independent School District (HISD) is continuing to hand out free food boxes to families even as some students returned for in-person learning last week, KHOU 11 reports

Families are able to pick up 32-pound boxes of food every Saturday afternoon at two distribution sites in the city. The food boxes are available through a partnership with the Houston Food Bank. Families with children who are participating in remote learning at the district also receive seven breakfasts, seven lunches and a gallon of milk each week from nutrition services.

The Texas district was expecting to serve around 3,000 families on the first day of its new schedule, which took place over the weekend.
