CentraState Health System in New Jersey has been named recipient of the 2020 FM Best Concept Award in the Best Wellness Concept category for its program of providing patients being discharged from the hospital after having recovered from coronavirus infection a box full of food to take home and help with their continued recovery, both physically and psychologically. It is a measure of the healthcare institution's—and particularly its dining team's—dedication to the wellness of their patients that this extra effort was undertaken and one that the FM editorial team felt should be recognized.

Being in New Jersey, in one of the regions hit hardest by the coronavirus, CentraState had seen more than its share of infected patients. At one point, two-thirds of the census was COVID-positive, according to Gary Triolo, director of food and nutrition services. As patients began to be discharged after recovering from the virus, the foodservice team knew it wanted to do something just a little bit special to mark the occasion.

The boxes include meals made by the nutrition team as well as supplies to help them with preparing meals for another few days. The hospital also included a gift card to area restaurants to help with meals.
