Aramark brings Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology to Houston Methodist
The new store located inside Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital in Texas offers employees, patients and guests 24/7 access to food.
Employees, patients and guests at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas will now have 24-hour access to food thanks to the hospital’s new Amazon Just Walk Out Store.
The hospital’s foodservice provider, Aramark Healthcare , worked to transform a former underutilized area designated for soiled tray return into the store which offers customers convenience snacks, beverages, healthy options and microwaveable frozen meals.
“The Aramark Healthcare team is thrilled to work with Houston Methodist to open Amazon’s first Just Walk Out hospital location in the state,” Vice President of Operations at Aramark Healthcare David Hanson said in a statement. "This store underscores our commitment to delivering cutting-edge innovation and unparalleled experiences to patients, caregivers, and guests 24/7.”
Customers simply enter the store by swiping their credit card. The AI technology then tracks what shoppers pick up and take out of the store and charges their credit card accordingly.
Amazon first brought its Just Walk Out technology to hospitals earlier this year. Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia became the first hospital in the country to utilize the technology back in January.
The tech giant has also brought Just Walk Out locations to other onsite segments, including sports stadiums and university campuses.
