Palm-scanning technology is popping up nationwide as an accepted way to track and validate identities, reports USA Today. The technology is already in wide use in K-12 schools to confirm student identities for the purposes of logging free/reduced lunch sales and to make payments from individual declining balance lunch accounts. Meanwhile, healthcare institutions are using biometric systems to make patient registration more efficient and prevent sharing of information by patients that could lead to insurance fraud.
