Virginia has introduced five bills addressing lunch shaming and food insecurity, WJLA reports.

The five bills, VA HB1426VA HB701VA HB703VA HB698 and VA HB697, would prevent school districts from refusing to serve students and throwing away school meals regardless of whether students can pay. Schools would also be required to contact parents to try to recoup funds.

The bills would also allow schools to give unopened excess food to food-insecure students. Schools would also be allowed to accept outside donations toward eliminating school meal debt.
