N.J. lawmakers put together bill package to address lunch shaming

The New Jersey Assembly Education Committee has approved a series of bills to address lunch shaming, Insider NJ reports. 

The series of four bills prohibits schools across the state from withholding meals or serving alternative meals to students who have accumulated lunch debt. Districts would also be required to set up a donation fund to go toward school meal debt, and the Department of Agriculture would need to promote school meal programs. 

The bills are now headed to the assembly speaker for review.
