This November, California voters will be asked to weigh in on the labeling of genetically modified foods in a ballot initiative that could end up setting labeling policy for the whole country, according to an analysis in the Guardian. If the initiative passes, it will make the Golden State the first to have a GM labeling requirement, and given the state's size, it could force food manufacturers to default to its labeling mandate nationwide to avoid having to produce separate packaging language for the same products in different markets.
