Hennessey Traveler Program Cancelled

The SFM Hennessy Travelers Program has been cancelled just days before SFM Traveler Tony Kaszuba of RMA Hospitality Management was set to depart. The United States Air Force informed SFM (Society for Foodservice Management) that it had cancelled all NRA Hennessy Traveler Evaluations due to significant budget reductions and further potential cuts looming in the so-called sequestration deal forged last year by Congress.

"We know our members and generous sponsors, as well as a great many servicemen and women, are disappointed by this news," said SFM in a letter to members. "This represents the end of an impressive 57-year run by the Hennessy Travelers. SFM will remain steadfast, however, in our efforts to welcome all decommissioned military personnel into the B&I foodservice industry. Though the program may be gone, our resolve to guide these brave individuals and strengthen our industry is stronger than ever."

The Hennessey Travelers Program was created to promote educational opportunities for members of the U. S. Air Force serving in hospitality assignments. It provides encouragement and support for those members of the U.S. Air Force who have an interest in pursuing career opportunities in foodservice hospitality upon their departure from military service.

One Hennessey Traveler is chosen per year to evaluate foodservice and hospitality at U.S. bases around the world. Specific evaluations are provided on customer service, overall management, command support of foodservice operations and the general attitude of the base to excel by providing outstanding onsite hospitality.
