Aamark has scored a couple of major deals. First, the Beijung organizing committee for the olympic Games selected the company, along with a local partner, the Beijing tourism Group, to serve as official catering service providers for the 2008 summer olympic and Paralympic Games. It marks the 14th time that the company has been selected to serve an olympic Games.
A few days after that announcement, the new York mets major league Baseball team announced that aramark has been selected to provide food, beverage and retail merchandise services for its new citi Field ballpark, scheduled to open in april 2009. Aramark serves as the concessions provider at the mets current home in shea stadium. Because major league foodservice contracts are generally for long terms (the new deal with citi Field is for 30 years), concessionnaires are generally most vulnerable to losing teams when they move to new facilities. aramark has been the mets concessionnaire since 1995.
In Beijing, aramark will provide catering services for the athletes village, media villages, the international Broadcast center and the main Press center over the 60 days duration of the olympics and Paralympics. It will also manage the design and construction of the kitchen and dining facilities for the olympic catering venues (for more on aramark's olympics operations, see the July 2004 FM).
