Aramark Correctional Contract in Michigan Survives Union Challenge

Michigan’s Civil Service Commission deadlocked 2-2 on a union challenge to the state’s privatization of its prison food service, reports the Detroit Free Press. That means a three-year, $145-million contract with Aramark Correctional Services will remain in place and the contract, which generates an estimated annual savings of $12-$16 million, remains in force. It’s likely the fight over the contract will move to the state courts, a union spokesman indicated.
