Four senior-living communities near Brainerd, Minn., recently hosted a dessert competition with their residents, Brainerd Dispatch reports

Residents at Good Samaritan Society, Carefree Living and two Edgewood communities were asked to submit their favorite dessert recipes. Each community narrowed down the submissions to three recipes, and the dining teams made samples of each for residents, who then voted on their favorite.

Once a winning recipe from each community was chosen, the four recipes were shared among them. The dining team at each community then made samples of the four winners, and residents once again sampled and voted for their favorite, resulting in a grand prize winner.

Residents who submitted the winning recipes received gift baskets. The grand prize dessert was a cherry meringue.
