Sodexo has partnered with Harvesting Good, a for-profit subsidiary of Good Shepherd Food Bank in Maine, to bring locally sourced broccoli to its operations at Central Maine Healthcare and all seven schools in the University of Maine system, Central Maine reports.

The broccoli will be grown in the state and then flash frozen for distribution to the Sodexo locations year-round.

Sodexo and Good Shepherd were able to fund the initiative through $250,000 in seed money received through a Henry P. Kendall Foundation Kendall Food Vision Prize.

Any surplus of broccoli will be distributed to the food bank's partners.
