P.S 1 in Brooklyn, N.Y., has transitioned to an all-vegetarian menu, making it the third public school in New York City to do so, DNA Info New York reports.
The student-driven change was made in partnership with the nonprofit Coalition for Healthy School Food, which has teamed up with a Department of Education office to help schools in the district make the switch to vegetarian menus. Meals on the new menu include lentil sloppy Joes and teriyaki crunchy tofu.
Additionally, around 1,200 school cafeterias in New York City have begun serving hummus as a vegan entree option.
Public schools in Los Angeles have also begun serving a host of meat-free options, with seven high schools currently piloting a vegan menu.
