Foodservice provider Aramark has partnered with a number of organizations to create NYC Healthcare Heroes, an initiative to support the more than 100,000 healthcare workers in New York City, the epicenter of the nation’s ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

To help prevent healthcare workers from having to worry about getting to the store, the program will deliver as many as 500,000 packages of over-the-counter medications, shelf-stable food such as pasta and soup, cleaning products and personal care items such as toothpaste and toilet paper to area hospitals.

Aramark will contribute labor to assist with procuring items for, assembling and distributing these packages, and volunteers from the Red Cross will work with Aramark employees on delivering them to healthcare staff. Other groups involved with the initiative are the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, nonprofit Robin Hood, and the Debra and Leon Black Family.

“Throughout our 84-year history, we have worked to build stronger communities, especially during times of crisis and natural disaster, when there are urgent needs,” John Zillmer, CEO of Aramark, said in a statement. “We are proud to help lead this effort, which would not be possible without the tremendous effort of our dedicated Aramark team.”
