Every year around this time, Technomic releases its annual forecast for the year ahead.

Its 2022 outlook is called “the year of the climb,” as the industry continues to emerge from the pandemic. Some of the trends are amplifications of what’s been going on in 2021, with comfort food, plant proteins and robotics continuing to evolve.

But there are some surprise predictions in store.
