Was J.R.R. Tolkien a food fanatic? Instead of taking up the question in a literature class, students got to taste for themselves food inspired by the beloved literary character, Bilbo Baggins. Last week, a Hobbit-themed day of snacking turned a Virginia Tech dining hall into Middle Earth for a day.

Since the title character in the book, The Hobbit, spends a lot of pages snacking, the daylong event was perfect for VA Tech Dining Services.

“The students had a great time,” says Ted Faulkner, director of dining services. Check out the gallery for a look into food meets fiction meets…a hobbit working the cash register…
