Sandwiches rule as a lunchtime choice. They’re portable, versatile and offer good value. But the bar has been raised on what makes a sought-after sandwich. This simple recipe delivers. It starts with a crusty artisan roll and is filled with fresh, flavorful, top-quality ingredients, including fresh mozzarella and basil.

Ingredients

1 rustique roll or other crusty roll
¼ cup fresh basil pesto
1 tbsp. fresh basil leaves
3 tbsp. sun-dried tomatoes
4 oz. fresh mozzarella, sliced ¼-in. thick

Steps

  1. Cut roll lengthwise in half. Spread pesto on the inside of each half.

  2. Place basil leaves on bottom half of roll; layer sun-dried tomatoes on top. Arrange sliced cheese on top of tomatoes. Cover sandwich with top of roll, pressing down slightly and ensuring that no ingredients are hanging over the edge.
