When it comes to the much-debated federal nutrition standards, Texas Senator Ted Cruz has a solution: Leave those decisions to state and local districts.

During a campaign stop in Iowa Saturday, the presidential hopeful was asked if he could improve school lunches and revealed that he wanted to put an end to the U.S. Department of Education, citing a “bizarre” meal he recently had at his daughter’s school, the Associated Press reports.

Cruz also told the crowd that when his wife becomes first lady, “French fries are coming back to school,” the AP says.
