Schools and state officials celebrate National School Lunch Week

While National School Lunch Week may look a little different this year due to COVID-19, that hasn’t stopped nutrition teams and other officials from celebrating. 

In keeping with this year’s theme, Now Playing: School Lunch, the nutrition team at Clark County School District in Las Vegas is hosting a Red Carpet Cart Contest, during which each school decorates its meal pickup cart in reference to a different movie. Community members can then visit the nutrition team’s Facebook page to vote for their favorite cart by liking its corresponding photo. 

Troup County School System in LaGrange, Ga., is also using movies to place a spotlight on school meals. According to the LaGrange Daily News, cafeteria staff at each school have chosen a different movie theme to celebrate, and students will be able to participate in trivia throughout the week during lunch. 

And it’s not just districts that are celebrating. Earlier this week, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer officially declared Oct. 12-16 as Michigan School Lunch Week and took the time to thank school nutrition staff throughout the state who have served almost 100 million meals to kids since the start of the pandemic.
