School district encourages healthy eating with farmers market pop-up

Fayette County Schools in Fayetteville, W.Va., hosted a pop-up farmers market for students at one of its elementary schools, The Register-Herald reports.

The market was held by the Fayette County Farm to School Program and funded through a $55,000 grant from the state’s Office of Child Nutrition. Students used plastic coins to “purchase” a variety of produce including beets, cucumbers, sweet potatoes and apples.

Students also received recipes featuring the produce that they could make at home.
