All New York City public schools will be going meatless every Monday beginning in September, CBS New York reports.

The district has decided to make its Meatless Mondays permanent after it piloted the program at 15 schools last year.

The program will impact all 1,800 schools within the district, with four schools serving a fully vegetarian menu all week long.

All 11 public New York City hospitals also began taking part in Meatless Mondays earlier this year.
