Nebraska to begin a farm-to-school network

Lawmakers in Nebraska have passed legislation to set up a farm-to-school network in the state.  

LB396 will require the state's Department of Education to hire a farm-to-school coordinator, who will be in charge of overseeing the network. 

Along with helping connect area farmers with school nutrition programs, the network will provide educational opportunities for students such as farm visits, school gardening, cooking demonstrations, composting and more. 

The legislation was introduced earlier this year by Sen. Tom Brandt.
