Indiana County Rolls Out Summer Feeding Food Truck Again

For the second consecutive year, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana and Chartwells School Dining Services are partnering on the Spartan Summer Food Truck Program in an effort to provide quality meals to youngsters in Fayette County, IN, during the summer months when school is not in session. According to a study by Feeding America, over a quarter of the county's children—over 1,600 individuals—are "food insecure."

The Program kicked off on May 23 with a mobile pantry event where community members in need of food assistance received grocery items at no cost. The Spartan Summer Food truck will make six daily stops and serve dinner two days a week at a local church.

With the support of the ConAgra Foods Foundation Hunger-free Summer Grant, the food truck will feature a new menu item such as wraps, salads, fruit, vegetables, juice, yogurt, milk and more.

“Fayette County Schools is happy to have created this partnership with Gleaners Food Bank to provide a valuable service to the community,” says Siobhan Carey, Director of Dining Services for Chartwells at Fayette County Schools. “We want to make sure that all children have access to food while school is out. We think they will be excited to see this bright truck bringing them lunch every day and it will also encourage them to go outside and play!”
