How Broward County Public Schools is celebrating National School Lunch Week
The district is hosting student contests, lunch with local dignitaries and more.
The nutrition team at Broward County Public Schools in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is gearing up for National School Lunch Week which runs from October 9-13.
In keeping with this year’s theme, Level Up with School Lunch, the district is hosting a Instagram contest where high school students are invited to post a gamer-themed selfie that shows them enjoying their lunch. The student who receives the most likes on their photo will win a $25 Fandango gift card.
Students of all ages can also enter a poster contest. Prizes will be awarded to students in each grade level who design the best poster using the Level Up with School Lunch slogan.
In addition, local dignitaries are invited to enjoy lunch with students and the School Board of Broward County will officially declare October 9-13, 2023 as National School Lunch Week.
“We know our students can’t concentrate on learning if they do not have the proper nutrition,” Dr. Peter B. Licata, BCPS superintendent, said in a statement. “Our Food and Nutrition Services professionals are dedicated to ensuring students have a great variety of delicious and healthy meals available to help their academic achievement and overall well-being.”
