Elementary school hosts farmers market for students

Cherokee Elementary School in Tahlequah, Okla., recently held a farmers market for students, Tahlequah Daily Press reports.

Students were given bags with recipes, coloring sheets and more. They also received “veggie bucks" that could be used to purchase zucchini, cucumbers, pears, watermelon and other produce at the market.

The event also featured a smoothie bike, which was used by students to make salsa.

As the farm-to-school movement continues to grow, other school districts have also held farmers markets to get students engaged with local produce and healthy eating.
