Coffee kiosks out for Pa. district high schools
District reversed decision to bring coffee stands to high schools.
July 19, 2012
July 19—The Downingtown Area (Pa.) School Board has reversed its previous decision to bring coffee and smoothie kiosks to the district’s two high schools.
Instead, the district will work on a plan to redesign the schools’ cafeterias for “comfort and openness” for the students, according to Superintendent Lawrence Mussoline. The administration is considering redesigning the cafeteria to make it “less institutional and more in line with what colleges might have” today.
Board members had voted during their monthly meeting in June to purchase Java City Kiosks for the schools, one of which is currently in the STEM Academy, donated by Aramark, the design of which is worth $15,000.
