Chicago Schools IG to Probe Pending Foodservice Deal

Officials at the Chicago Public Schools have asked the district's inspector general to review a recent preliminary decision to award the district's foodservice contract to Aramark, reports Crain's Chicago Business. The factor being questioned is the role played by the district's new director of nutritional support services, Leslie Fowler, in the decision, as Fowler had previously worked for Aramrk.

The Chicago Schools foodservice contract, which has been held by Chartwells-Thompson and Preferred Meal Systems, is reportedly worth over $100 million a year. The district's RFP calls for a one-year deal with four one-year renewals.
