When it comes to school meals, they don’t often get the recognition they deserve. Last year, Food Management decided to change that by creating the Best K-12 Meals in America contest. Following last year’s success, we teamed up with sponsor Tyson K-12 to once again find the most innovative, tasty, kid-friendly school meals.

We received nominations from across the United States, with flavors ranging from Indian to Latin American. Here you’ll find the winners in each of 11 categories: breakfast, beef, bowl, chicken, pasta, pork, sandwich, seafood, salad, taco/burrito and vegetarian/meatless.

All meals had to meet USDA requirements under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and must be served as a reimbursable meal under the National School Lunch or Breakfast programs.

The entrée was the main component used in judging the competition, though full meals with sides that complement the entrée were given additional points. Judging was done by Food Management editors.

Without further ado, let’s meet this year’s winners.
