When it comes to the food provided at Sparrow Food and Nutrition Services' cafeterias, catering services and various other eating areas, the goal is to offer dishes that are healthy, comforting and tasty.

"Our biggest thing is to provide healthy food to our caregivers and our visitors," says Jim Long, Sparrow's manager of public areas.

Sparrow has several cafeterias and eating areas both on its main campus and St. Lawrence campus. The hospital's main cafeteria serves around 3,500 meals a day.

"We try to provide a nice mix of healthy items that we can serve in the cafeteria, but also provide comfort food," Long explains. "A lot of people coming down to the cafeteria want those things that are comforting to them - foods they had at home."
