June 6—Officials at Freeman Hospital West, in Joplin, Mo., recently held the grand opening for the hospital’s $5 million new kitchen and servery.

The kitchen serves more than 1,000 meals daily to hospital staff, patients and visitors. During today’s opening, Freeman Health Systems President and Chief Executive Officer Paula Baker said the goal for the new cafeteria is to provide a fresh dining experience unlike traditional hospital food.

The upgrade took 14 months to complete and comes equipped with energy-saving appliances, an expanded dining area and more.
