Charles LaMonica, formerly executive vp of operations for Compass Group's  Restaurant Associates division, has assumed a new position as a division president for Morrison Healthcare, Compass' healthcare services group. In his new role, LaMonica will also be responsible for retail strategy and operations across all four of the Morrison divisions.

“My goal is to bring our experience with B&I retail to healthcare, working with the established Morrison team to improve the retail atmosphere, food selection and merchandising in the hospitals we serve,” LaMonica says.

“Morrison already does a terrific job with retail and we want to accelerate the improvement process. Hospital retail is growing faster than the commercial restaurant industry and continues to be a growth vehicle for us.”

If Morrison were a restaurant chain, "its combined retail revenue would put it among the Top 100 chain operations. There are also parallels with B&I," he adds.

“As in B&I, putting a greater focus on food quality and merchandising has a huge impact on sales. Both environments also have a growing interest in health and wellness programs."
