The team from Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center triumphed over its New York City rivals in the 2011 Big Apple Healthcare Culinary Challenge. Organized by the Healthcare Foodservice Administrators Association of Greater New York, the event drew a crowd of more than 150 healthcare foodservice professionals, foodservice industry associates, students and assorted enthusiasts to the prestigious French Culinary Institute (FCI) of the International Culinary Center in mid February.

The Iron Chef style competition pitted teams from Kingsbrook, Maimonedes Medical Center, New York University Langone Medical Center and defending champion Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. They had to utilize the three secret ingredients—beef shoulder, whole chicken and tilapi as appetizer—and come up with their creations in 60 minutes.
