More Americans than ever are wishing for — if not eating — healthier snacks. When posed with the question: “If you could make one change to the world of snacks today, what would it be?” more than half of those surveyed by the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association (IDDBA) said they would “make snacks healthier.”

The next-most-common response was “more affordable.” Demand for cheese, meat and sweet snacks is on the decline, the research shows. Strangely enough, respondents to the Snacking Trends study exhibited a great demand for snack foods that were low in trans-fats, despite a general inability to define what trans-fats are.
