Hospital works to discard romaine lettuce after recall

AdventHealth Hendersonville in Hendersonville, N.C., is working to dispose of romaine lettuce that may have been contaminated by E. coli, ABC 13 WLOS reports. 

Hospital officials say that they received a shipment of romaine lettuce from the Salinas, Calif., region and used two bags of it just before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a recall for all romaine grown in that area due to risk of E. coli contamination.  

Foodservice staff have thrown away the remaining shipment and will be closely monitoring future lettuce shipments. The CDC has not received any reports of confirmed E. coli cases from this outbreak in North Carolina so far.
