Employees of healthcare facilities in New York state must be at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19 by Sept. 27, per an announcement made on Monday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The mandate applies to workers in hospitals, long-term care centers and the like, and “limited exceptions” will be granted for medical or religious reasons.
Amid concerns about the Delta variant and rising case numbers across the U.S., some states and municipalities are making COVID vaccines a must for workers in certain higher-risk industries.
Massachusetts earlier this month issued a COVID vaccine mandate for nursing home staff in that state, while Denver enacted a similar requirement for school and healthcare workers within its city limits. California also has a vaccine mandate in place for anyone working in a K-12 school.
