Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, KS, got some intersegment cooperation from the local school district and from a senior care facility when its kitchen was forced to close temporarily, reports the Dodge City Daily Globe. The roof of the hospital's kitchen and its storage area were damaged on October 9 when a crane installing an air conditioning unit fell over. The kitchen was closed through the following morning, forcing the nutrition services department to find an alternative way to prepare meals for patients. The Dodge City school district and Manor of the Plains senior living community made both their production facilities and stock available to Western Plains to tide it over. A structural engineer finally gave the nod to resume operations late the next morning.
