The U.S. Army has launched a healthy dining program that it hopes will better accord with current research on physical fitness and lead to a more effective and athletic fighting force, reports the Associated Press. The approach is to be rolled out at five training installations where the service's senior brass have the most ability to effect immediate change.

It will put healthier items on dining hall menus alongside less healthful traditional choices, and will also include nutrition education as well as proactive involvement by drill sergeants to encourage healthy food choices by recruits.
