Washington student project replaces foam trays with reusable trays

TICHIGAN,Wash.— One-use foam lunch trays will soon be a thing of the past at Washington School thanks to five environmentally conscious eighth-graders.

Those students, troubled by how many foam trays the school was sending to landfills each year, devised a plan to purchase washable, reusable plastic trays. They got money from the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization and the new plastic trays will start being used next week.

The switch “is important for future generations and definitely for animals” so they have a natural and clean environment, explained eighth-grader Carson Bragg.
