Tapingo, the food-ordering platform popular across a number of college campuses, will be acquired by Grubhub in a deal valued at “approximately $150 million,” both brands announced today.

Tapingo is a presence at 150 colleges and has partnerships with Sodexo and Aramark. Through its app, the company primarily enables students to place food orders for pickup; however, some schools also offer delivery through the platform.

"Grubhub is the industry leader in food delivery, allowing us to provide even greater value to our campus partners and student diners with access to Grubhub's technology and delivery expertise," Daniel Almog, Tapingo CEO, said in a statement. "By joining forces with Grubhub's network of over 85,000 restaurant partners that offer online delivery and pickup, we'll continue to serve our loyal diners long after they graduate from college, which has always been our aspiration."

Likewise, Grubhub CEO Matt Maloney mentioned his company’s goal to capture future Grubhub customers while they are in college, with the aim of creating “life-long Grubhub diners.”
