Aug. 8—Last week a team from Oconee Medical Center’s dietary department took the first place prize in a hospital food cooking competition called Cooking Well. The competition held at Trident Technical College’s Culinary Institute of Charleston pitted teams from 10 South Carolina hospitals against one another in a challenge to cook a delicious meal that not only tastes good and looks appetizing, but is also good for you.

Contest guidelines required that each dish meet specific nutritional guidelines including restrictions on calories, total fat, saturated fat and sodium. The meal also had to be kind to the wallet with a limit of $5 for one serving of the full, three-course meal.
